Susie C.

Hello! My name is Susie Criss. I am a black lung benefits counselor working in the Breathing Center at Dawes for close to ten years.

I previously worked at New River Health in Scarbro, WV for 25 years. I started there in 1991 at the front desk there while attending college. I later graduated with an Associate of Science in Medical Office Assisting and became a CMA one year later. I started working in black lung and doing tests/counseling around that time. Later, I was Dr. Dan Doyle’s CMA for several years and was Director of Black Lung and Pulmonary Rehab there. I received my Regent’s Bachelor of Arts with Health Care Services emphasis in 2012 from WVU Tech.

I assist miners (and others with work dust exposure) to file state and federal claims and build their cases until an attorney will agree to represent them, do the black lung grant reports and also am currently serving as the Treasurer of the National Coalition of Black Lung and Respiratory Disease Clinics. Many of my family members work in coal mining so it has always been my passion to take care of these hard-working individuals and try to keep them healthy!

I have a husband, Jim, of 34 years, 3 children (all adults), 3 grandchildren and a farm with horses, 3 dogs
a cat, honey bees, and Christmas trees.
